This week in Gacha (June 8 to 14, 2026)
The one where a Kickstarter scam revealed a car-girl gacha early.

This week in gacha brought us an all-timer of a collab, a Kickstarter scam, Snowbreak skirting EoS territory, and yet another retired gacha back from the dead. All this and more below, plus the usual dates to look out for next week at the end of the article.

This week in Gacha (June 8 – 14)
Wuthering Waves x Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collaboration is a huge hit, but…
It’s pretty wild that Wuthering Waves now serves as the official continuation of Lucy’s story from the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. And even wilder that it’s a damn good story, too. I haven’t played much of Wuthering Waves since launch (except when I logged on to get Zani, for reasons), so I’ve only heard about how much Kuro Games’ flagship gacha has improved. Well, after finishing the collaboration story, tearing up a bit, and completing the first chapter of La-Haori, I get it now—Wuthering Waves is pretty good these days.
But, the way the Cyberpunk collaboration banners work is ridiculous. Only sticking around for one patch, using its own unique currency for character and weapon pulls, and even making up another currency for duplicate pulls, meaning you can’t rely on anything you’ve previously accumulated, except unconverted Astrites. Which all adds up to a hell of a lot of grinding, or a hell of a lot of money being spent. I guess it’s nice that one copy of Rebecca is free, but that offering pales in comparison to the current grind I’ve found myself in as a free-to-play. Me and my zero Astrites are really regretting that Zani pull now…
Although it seems these annoying collab banners aren’t enough to deter people, as Wuthering Waves spent a brief time at number one on Steam’s best sellers list, and is still knocking about the top five, as of writing. Wuthering Waves also hit its new all-time peak of 49,497 concurrent Steam players on June 8, the day the Cyberpunk collaboration went live. And all this isn’t even taking into consideration those playing via WuWa’s own launcher, or on Mobile and PS5. To call the collaboration a success seems like quite the understatement.
Final Fantasy Resonance adapts the story of axed gacha Brave Exvius
Rare is the gacha that gets an offline mode once it ends service, but rarer still is a full blown adaptation as a dedicated single-player, physical game release. But that’s exactly what Final Fantasy Resonance is: a brand new HD-2D RPG in the Final Fantasy universe that’s using Final Fantasy Brave Exvius’ story as a “narrative foundation”. Specifically, it’s adapting the story of Season 1. You can read our full story on Final Fantasy Resonance adapting the story of Brave Exvius here.
Car-girl gacha Project GT Kickstarter is a scam, but the game is real
We’ve got the full story of Project GT’s scam Kickstarter here, but here’s a brief summary for those in a rush:
- A neat looking gacha with car-girls and ARPG combat called Project GT gets a Kickstarter with a mere $2,000 USD goal.
- Its weird concept and Kickstarter “trailer” with AI voiceover gets a lot of attention on Reddit and X (most of it good, some of it already calling Project GT a scam).
- The Kickstarter ends with $26,816 from 418 backers.
- Siphon Game Studios takes to bilibili and calls the Kickstarter a scam with no affiliation to the developer, and that assets used in the Kickstarter were stolen from its business plan for Project: GT.
- Siphon tells Game Grape that Project: GT will be officially announced in the next few months.
So the Kickstarter was a scam, but Project: GT is a real game. Which I’m pretty happy about, because the gameplay on show in that “trailer” seems like a very cool concept. Like Umamusume meets Forza, meets RPG action.
Snowbreak: Containment Zone postpones next update a month after returning from a two month hiatus
Sorry, Snowbros, it is not looking good for the newly censored version of Snowbreak. An in-game notice on June 11 informed players that the release of their new limited-time event has been postponed. “We’ll share more details about the revised schedule and event content in a future notice,” the message reads.
This news comes hot on the heels of a pretty disastrous May income for the game, after going offline for two months to censor, uh, almost everything. Snowbreak had to do this thanks to all of the (negative) attention it drew in China after collaborating with its National Post Office. Yeah, you read that right, the gooner game to end all gooner games decided to team up with the post office. In the very same patch it included a not-so-subtle blowjob scene, too. There’s a few sentences I never pictured myself writing.
Where Winds Meet gets a surprise Xbox release
Where Winds Meet is now available for Xbox Series X, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud. And if you’re a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, there’s some extra goodies like Echo Jade and Lingering Melodies awaiting you via a starter pack. The game shadow dropped across the Xbox ecosystem after debuting a trailer for the new Hidden Mountain expansion at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. Aether Dawn revealed, an anime cyberpunk-fantasy hack-and-slash ARPG
From the screenshots attached to its press release, I can’t say Aether Dawn is looking very unique right now, despite it being a self-described anime take on cyberpunk-fantasy. However, the newly formed Jin Universe Studios sounds like it could pull off a better-looking final product, with developers coming from studios like Kuro Games, Hypergryph, and Tencent.
Here’s an overview of the game, and some screenshots, courtesy of Jin Universe Studios:
Aether Dawn is built around a unique core-loop that seamlessly combines third-person ARPG combat with roguelite dungeon-crawler mechanics, delivering a deeply immersive experience powered by high-fidelity graphics, striking artistic design, and a rich original narrative. Positioned at the intersection of two of gaming’s most passionate communities, anime and action RPG, Aether Dawn is designed from the ground up to evolve into a long-lasting, iconic IP.

Aether Dawn will release on PC and Mobile.
The EoS zone
Here’s what we have in the EoS zone this week:
- Black Beacon will end service on August 17, 2026 in China. Global already shut down in November of 2025. It only launched for Global and China in April 2025.
- Girls’ Frontline: Fire Control will end service on August 26, 2026. It only ever released in SEA, on November 27, 2025.
- Sugar Conflict will end service on July 9 in Japan. And although I couldn’t find any official information on the Global version, it will almost certainly shut down on the same day. It launched in January 2022 in Japan, and got an uncensored Global release in June 2025 on Nutaku.
New characters this week
- June 8 – Lucy and Rebecca, Wuthering Waves
- June 9 – Lohen, Genshin Impact
- June 11 – Clementine and Forensica, Path to Nowhere
- June 11 – Akihiko Sanada, Persona 5: The Phantom X
- June 11 – Ark Ranger Black, Goddess of Victory: Nikke
- June 13 – Lucilla, Wuthering Waves
Did you get any of them?
I’m currently on the Astrite grind trying to get Lucy in Wuthering Waves, but unless I find some mighty fine luck amongst all those 3-star weapons I’m pulling, I don’t think she’s coming down from that moon any time soon. It would have been really swell of Past Me to leave more than zero Astrites on my account the last time I gave WuWa a go, but turns out I decided to hate myself instead.
