This week in Gacha (June 22 – 28)

Love and Deepspace reveals a new wolf love interest, Chinese fans aren’t happy (to put it mildly)

You know it’s a weird week for gacha when Love and Deepspace kicks things off by declaring all its male protagonists as heterosexual. Why? Because over 950,000 comments underneath the Weibo reveal for new CEO wolfman love interest, Valko, were overwhelmingly negative. With some complaining he “looks gay,” “ugly,” and designed for a Western market. There are some valid complaints about what a new character means for the gacha rates going forward, and concerns over storylines for other love interests being abandoned in favor of Valko, but those points seem buried in an avalanche of negativity over Valko’s looks. His reveal seems to have gone down better with Global, Japanese, and Korean fans, but to be fair, anything would be more positive than the extreme backlash he’s getting in China right now.

Love and Deepspace has since apologized for the way Valko’s reveal was handled, and assured fans that storylines for other love interests would continue. However, the comments under the Weibo apology are just as harsh. With many calling for Valko’s removal, or they quit playing altogether. Some fans are also encouraging others to stop spending money, and stop logging in. The news was so big, it was trending on Weibo’s top five stories, and Beijing News even reported on it.

The gacha earnings chart for July is going to be a particularly interesting read.

Genshin Impact reveals Tsaritsa design in Snezhnaya character trailer

It’s been a long time coming, but after only hearing about the Tsaritsa—Snezhnaya’s Cryo Archon—since Genshin Impact‘s launch nearly six years ago, we finally know what she looks like thanks to Snezhnaya’s character reveal trailer. The first batch of Snezhnayan playable characters were also revealed in the trailer, and it looks like there will be at least four playable male characters this time, not counting Pantalone. A rarity for a new region these days.

Sea of Remnants is launching July 9 in China

I was really hoping its Summer Game Fest trailer meant a simultaneous Global and Chinese release for Sea of Remnants, but it’s not looking likely now that a July 9 launch for PC has been announced just for China. The Mobile release date in China is still just “July” for now.

You get a beta! You get a beta! Everyone gets a beta!

With three closed betas for some hotly anticipated big gachas starting soon, you’re bound to get into one of them… right? Right. The second Honkai: Nexus Anima beta and third Aniimo beta kick things off on July 9, with Silver Palace currently recruiting for its second beta.

New Neverness to Everness endgame mode is basically a whole RPG

I really didn’t expect Neverness to Everness to drop a whole-ass RPG as a random update, but here we are. As revealed in its 1.2 livestream, 999 Nights is a replayable “Anomaly tabletop” endgame mode set in a fully 3D fantasy world that seems to take a lot of design inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons and Dark Souls. As well as having a repeatable main story and side quests, there’s a new gear system and combat mechanics that make it seem a bit more like Diablo than anything else, and lots of new costumes to work towards. I guess I can forgive NTE for its increasingly boring mini-games now. Who cares about those suckers when there’s basically a whole new game to explore now.

Goddess of Victory: Nikke is the latest gacha to get a Persona collaboration

Not satisfied with big collabs like Resident Evil, Lycoris Recoil, and, uh… Dave the Diver, Nikke looks set to crossover with Persona 3, 4, and 5. Technically, this hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the teaser video does flash all three of these Persona games’ main logos during its short runtime.

Cinderella inspired male character from Disney Sparklink Stars

Disney Sparklink Stars dropped its first teaser trailer on June 22, then followed it up the next day by revealing key art for the Mobile game’s first male character, who seems to be inspired by Cinderella. Social media posts after this have just been expanding on the different areas of the Mickey Mouse-shaped island that the game takes place on. But before you get too excited, just keep in mind that Disney Sparklink Stars has only been revealed in Japan so far. And if it goes down the Twisted Wonderland route, we might not see a Global release for quite some time.

“Project Comet” leaks point to a Marvel gacha resembling Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves

After posting a bunch of character and gameplay images / animations for an alleged mobile game with the code name “Project Comet,” leaker multiversusie on X at first described it as “almost like a Marvel Ultimate Alliance mobile game in a way,” but then later described it as “very close to a Gacha type game like Genshin or Wuthering Waves but Marvel.” They later cleared this up with more alleged information on how the game plays:

Project Comet will allow you to run through the same missions outside of the main story with up to 4 players. You can scale the difficulty up on these missions. This is the Ultimate Alliance comparison I was originally told about. Gameplay/mission structure feels more Gacha.

Before multiversusie’s posted images and animations were taken down, they showed Captain America, Elektra, War Machine, Sue Storm, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Juggernaut, and Doctor Octopus. But the leaker also mentioned other playable characters, including Quicksilver, Beast, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Living Laser, and Lady Bullseye.

As a recovering Marvel Contest of Champions player, and current open-world gacha addict… *chuckles* I’m in danger.

Persona 5: The Phantom X apologizes for failing to “meet expectations” after underwhelming Hatsune Miku collaboration

Starting off an apology by reminding everyone that anniversary celebrations actually started two months ago, with the current version 4.4 update and Hatsune Miku collab just the “grand finale” to festivities, isn’t a great look. But that’s how P5PX decided to start its apology post to players who “had hoped to see content closer to an addition of the main story, or a collab with other Persona titles.” The post then went on to apologise “if we have failed to meet your expectations, especially on this, the occasion of our 1st Anniversary.” More information “in light of this” was then promised to be coming soon, via an eight-minute livestream.

For those out of the loop, a lot of players were left unsatisfied with the recent Hatsune Miku collab, as she was released during the game’s anniversary patch with almost no story to go alongside her debut. Not really the “grand finale” to festivities that players were expecting.

Muv-Luv Girls Garden coming to Global in Q4 2026

Muv-Luv Girls Garden, an idle mech RPG, originally released in September 2025 for Japan only as a browser/PC game. It then got a Mobile release in March 2026, and is now set for a Global release in Q4 2026. This version will support English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

The EoS zone

Here’s what we have in the EoS zone this week:

  • The current version of Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds will end service on September 17, 2026 for Global, with the sale of all paid items in the in-game shop being discontinued on July 2. However, it’s getting a relaunch on a “New Global Unified Server” that requires all players to make a new character. There will be “migration support rewards” to make up for this, with a website detailing these rewards launching in early July. You can read more about the game’s EoS and relaunch via the official announcement here.
  • End Symphony -Memories of Collapse and Rebirth- will end service on July 22 in Japan. It only launched in November 2025, never getting the chance to release for Global.
  • Heads up that Shadowverse is ending service this week on June 30. It originally released in June 2016, so 10 years of service is actually a win in my book. Shadowverse: Evolve and Shadowverse’s direct successor, Shadowerse: Worlds Beyond, are still running as normal.
