Love and Deepspace declares all male protagonists heterosexual after major backlash to new wolf love interest in China

Replying to a user on Chinese social media platform Weibo, the official Love and Deepspace Weibo account has declared that “All male leads are heterosexual! Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, that will never change!!”

That user accounts for just one of the responses under the Weibo reveal of new love interest Valko (Ao Yin in China) that thinks he “looks gay”. The post has over 950,000 comments as of writing, with a lot of the most liked calling Valko “ugly” and quoting the official game’s playful “Sorry!” responses to negative comments with single words like “Refund,” and “Gun”.

Other complains range from his Chinese name (Ao Yin) sounding silly, as it resembles a wolf’s howl, his design being on par with an NPC, and accusations that a man must have designed Valko because he looks like he belongs in a fighting game.

In amongst all the complaints of Valko’s design are monetization concerns about what a sixth love interest means for Love and Deepspace going forward. The game already has gacha banners with all five characters included, so adding a sixth will reduce the odds of pulling something for your chosen love interest.

Caleb fans have also pointed out that he hasn’t received a main story update for over 500 days, and that adding another love interest with a new story before updating his is unfair. Plus, some fans of all five current love interests don’t like that Valko is a villain who has harmed them in the past.

The response from Valko’s Global reveal has been a lot more positive. But to be fair, anything would be more positive than the extreme backlash he’s getting in China right now. However, there are similar concerns about Valko being added to the multi-banner pool to be found on Western, Japanese, and Korean social media, albeit not as many as there are under Valko’s Weibo reveal.
