Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is real, and it’s coming this year

After years of fan speculation and supposed insider leaks, the June 9 Nintendo Direct finally revealed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake with a very short teaser (one minute and 37 seconds, to be precise).

The game will be “reborn” on Switch 2 in 2026, but there’s no exact release date yet. But seeing as we’re halfway through 2026 now, I’m going to give myself the go ahead to say that it’ll be out soon. Anything should feel soon now that the game’s been officially revealed, anyway.

At the start of the teaser video, a woven tapestry changes its scenery as a narrator talks about the creation of Hyrule, the Kokiri, and Link’s lack of fairy companion in the Kokiri forest. Then, at the minute mark, we get to see the remake’s updated visuals for the first time, watching as little Link sleeps in his very humble bedding. This will sound very familiar to those who remember the start of the original game, but this time, instead of jumping straight into his nightmares of Ganon kidnapping Zelda, Link’s hand starts glowing and an image of the Triforce appears on it.

And that’s it.

For those that need a refresher, Ocarina of Time originally released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, and has since been emulated and ported to the GameCube, Wii, Wii U, and Switch. This Switch 2 version is technically the game’s second remake, as Nintendo teamed up with Grezzo to lightly redo it in 2011 for the 3DS. However, this Switch 2 offering looks like a much more substantial visual upgrade than the 3DS version.

We’ll just have to wait until the next official Nintendo reveal for any more information than that, unfortunately.
