Resident Evil Veronica revealed, coming 2027

Claire Redfield returns in Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the fan favorite Resident Evil Code: Veronica that originally released on the Dreamcast in 2000. With an extended version, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, releasing a year later in 2001 for the PlayStation 2. Claire hasn’t starred in a Resident Evil game since 2019’s Resident Evil 2 remake, and has been absent from any new mainline games since Revelations 2, which was released in 2015.

After years of rumors, Veronica was finally made official with a debut trailer at Summer Game Fest’s 2026 showcase, kicking off the show. In it, we watch from Claire’s first-person perspective as she’s walked to her brother Chris’ (very messy) apartment by his landlord, somewhere in France. This lines up with the original canon series of events—even if we never experienced this exact scene—where Claire is searching for Chris across Europe, where he is investigating Umbrella’s continuing dodgy bioweapon plans.

One big change is the appearance of an Umbrella operative who bears a striking visual and vocal resemblance to HUNK, a character who first starred in The 4th Survivor bonus mode in the original Resident Evil 2, and has become something of a fan favourite himself. It seems HUNK will be the one who captures Claire this time, taking her to Rockfort Island where the original Code: Veronica begins.

No sign of that sick helicopter chase and Claire’s Matrix-esque pistol-catching skills yet, but the rest of the trailer did offer brief glimpses of reimagined locations and items from the original, such as the Ashford Mansion, those incredibly annoying moths, and the iconic golden lugers.

Resident Evil Veronica releases in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Here’s the official press release and Steam listing description that accompanied the reveal, along with a bunch of mighty fine looking screenshots of the remake in action:

Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the beloved classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica, was announced for release in 2027 at Summer Game Fest! The next chapter in the iconic Resident Evil survival horror series features the return of fan-favorite heroine Claire Redfield and will release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

Resident Evil Veronica will draw players into a desperate escape filled with horror and madness through the isolated, zombie-filled Rockfort Island. Developed on Capcom’s proprietary RE ENGINE, the game will introduce modernized gameplay with a chilling level of realism designed to push survival horror to new heights.

Steam listing:

This new title preserves the essence of the original game, while introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics.
In 2027, madness and intrigue, love and hate all combine to create a chilling new entry in survival horror.

3 months have passed since the biological disaster in Raccoon City.

Claire Redfield, having survived along with Leon S. Kennedy and Sherry Birkin, travels to France in search of her brother, Chris Redfield.

However, what awaits her is not a reunion with her brother, but the Umbrella special forces unit responsible for the incident. They capture Claire and transport her to a mysterious island.

Now Claire must make a desperate attempt to escape the remote Rockfort Island which, due to another biological disaster, has transformed into a living hellscape of survival horror.
