Gilgamesh and Rin coming this Summer to Honkai: Star Rail in continuation of Fate/stay night collaboration

With “Summer” expected to be version 4.4.

Gilgamesh and Rin drip marketing for Honkai Star Rail

As revealed in the Honkai: Star Rail version 4.3 livestream, Gilgamesh and Rin Tohsaka from the Fate/stay night: Unlimited Bladeworks anime are coming to Honkai: Star Rail this Summer. They are the second batch of Fate/stay night characters to appear on special collaboration banners, with Archer and Saber debuting last year in version 3.4.

The vague “Summer” release date in question is expected to mean version 4.4, as this is lines up with previous reliable leaks. It’s all but confirmed that version 4.4 will release July 15, thanks to the confirmed banner dates of version 4.3. The Fate banners might debut a few weeks into the patch, if following the same release schedule as last year.

Gilgamesh and Rin Tohsaka are both five-stars, with Gilgamesh a Lightning-type of the Destruction path, and Rin a Quantum-type of the Erudition path.

Continuing with Star Rail’s “Here’s a free male character” pattern, you can also claim Gilgamesh for free by simply logging into Honkai: Star Rail after he debuts. Or, you can pick Archer instead—last year’s free male offering. So if you already have Archer, you can claim his Eidolon instead. This log-in event lasts until the end of version 4.6.

You can most likely take your sweet time saving up for Rin, if she takes your fancy more, as Archer and Saber’s banners are still running today. Developer miHoYo promised they would stick around for “a long time,” and that they have, as it’s been 10 months since their debut.

We’re taking a turn into potential new character and future collaboration leaks now, so don’t scroll past the picture below if you’d like to avoid spoilers of any kind!

Mortis Leaks—the reliable leak source that places the Fate/stay night continuation in version 4.4—also claims that Honkai: Star Rail’s Fate collaboration will become a long-term annual event “if nothing goes wrong”, and that Sakura will be the female Fate character releasing next year. As usual, even if Mortis Leaks is usually reliable and this information is correct today, anything could change between now and next year.

Personally, I’m kind of bummed that Fate seems to be the only planned collaboration. While Star Rail is stuck on Fate, fellow gacha Goddess of Victory: Nikke is out here getting major crossovers like Resident Evil, Lycoris Recoil, and, uh, Dave the Diver. Well, if any game is ripe for a silly crossover like that, it’s surely Star Rail? I’d even take a My Little Pony collab at this point. Oh, wait, Arknights already did that.
